Checkered Skipper on Hollyhock

April 8th – One of the weird things I observed was this checkered skipper seemed like it wanted to lay it’s eggs  on the dwarf hollyhock in my front yard, but the two times I observed it, it actually laid eggs on DIRT next to the hollyhock. Here’s the  the picture below of the egg on a dirt clod. I scanned it at 6400 dpi.
